Sberbank is the sixth most valuable banking brand in Europe according to Brand Finance
Over the course of last year, Sberbank's brand value has increased by 33% to USD 9.1 bln, according to Brand Finance, the leading independent branded business valuation and strategy consultancy company. Globally, Sberbank has improved its standing from 35th to 24th position. Sberbank is the only Russian brand in the Top100 of the banking rating and the only Russian banking brand in the Brand Finance Global 500. Sberbank ranks 6th among European banks and 24th among global banks.
“The new reality is that the world is going digital. We want to be relevant, stay in the sector lead and do everything possible to achieve this. We have set an ambitious goal for ourselves – to turn into a technological company, and have been working towards this ever since. We try to convey this thought to everyone, including our employees, clients and investors,” Herman Gref, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Sberbank, noted.
David Haigh, Founder and CEO at Global Finance, said: “Sberbank is an innovative, technology-based bank, and is building tech platforms to grow its geographic and product base. It has a long corporate heritage, and a strong reputation, combined with dynamic management. Sberbank has rapidly grown its brand strength and value and we expect to see this trend continue and strengthen in coming years as technology transforms the banking and financial services sector”.
Brand Finance calculates brand value using the Royalty Relief methodology, which determines the value a company would be willing to pay to license its brand as if it did not own it. This approach involves estimating the future revenue attributable to a brand and calculating a royalty rate that would be charged for the use of the brand. Founded in 1996, Brand Finance is the world’s leading independent branded business valuation and strategy consultancy. Headquartered in London, Brand Finance is present in over 20 countries.
